I'm a "Clydesdale" runner, and these hold up to my added "girth." Frankly they are the best running shoes I've ever used, and I go through 3-4 pair of running shoes every year. I normally keep two in the rotation at any given time, so I typically alternate daily use.

I'm currently alternating with a pair of Asics Gel Kayanos. Although they feel good running and walking, I expect they will only provide about 60% of the usable life of the Beasts.

If you're a larger guy, and primarily walk, take a look at the Hoka One One Gaviota running shoes. They didn't provide the support I needed while running, they provided excellent cushioning for walking and lasted a very long time in that capacity...even longer than my Brooks Beasts (but I also ran in the Beasts).

I've rotated in New Balance, Sarcony, Asics, Mizuno, and probably another brand or two, but the ones I listed above (Beast - running & walking, Gaviota - walking only) seem to last longer than any others. But I'll keep rotating in shoes from other manufacturers to see if they stumble across an updated formula I like better.

My background: used to run 6 days a week until my bout with plantar fasciitis around the turn of the century, so I don't skimp on shoes. I'm also tight with money, so I only buy running shoes at the NEX when they're running a 20-25% off sale.
